A Moldy Disaster – My Regretful Experience with Chance Tokyo
While looking for a last-minute option during my stay in Tokyo, I decided to try Chance Tokyo after seeing their site. The photos seemed okay, and the price was cheap. Well, I got what I paid for—and worse.
When I arrived at the designated apartment, I was hit by a strong musty odor. The room felt humid, and the air was stuffy. But nothing could prepare me for the bathroom.
It was absolutely covered in mold. The shower walls, the corners of the bathtub, even the shower curtain—it all had visible black mold. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. I genuinely felt unsafe using it, and nearly walked out on the spot.
The boy himself was friendly but clearly used to this kind of environment, which made me feel even more uncomfortable. The whole place felt neglected and unsanitary.
I don’t mind simple accommodations, but basic hygiene is not optional—especially in this kind of service.
Needless to say, I will not be returning to Chance Tokyo.

I’m Ken from Toronto, Canada, and I currently work as an English teacher in Japan. Fascinated by Japanese literature and history, I was drawn to live here to immerse myself further in the culture. I’m actively engaged in the Japanese gay community and have a particular interest in the unique culture of “urisen” bars. Living in Japan has allowed me to act as a bridge between cultures while continuing to grow personally.
