Chikappa is a relatively new addition to the vibrant Shinjuku Ni-chome gay bar scene, having opened its doors in May. It’s a place with a sense of closeness, suggested by its name derived from the Fukuoka dialect meaning “close” or “nearby,” aiming to be a familiar presence for its patrons. The bar is the brainchild of its owner, KETARO-san, and a staff member, NONO-san, who were previously part of the team at another local gay bar, “Shaa-shika!” They decided to venture out and establish Chikappa after about a year and a half with “Shaa-shika,” bringing their experience and enthusiasm to their new venture. The design-savvy duo is responsible for all the creative aspects of the bar, from the logo and flyer designs to the coasters and interior decoration, indicating a strong commitment to creating a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment1.
Personal Experience at Chikappa
While I haven’t personally visited Chikappa, based on available information, one can expect a warm reception from KETARO-san and NONO-san, whose previous experience ensures a professional and friendly atmosphere. The bar’s dedication to design is evident, suggesting that guests can enjoy a visually appealing space that reflects the owners’ artistic talents. As with many bars in Ni-chome, Chikappa seems to promise an inviting and intimate setting, possibly becoming a go-to spot for both regulars and newcomers looking for a familiar and comfortable place to unwind and socialize.
